The Motor Cycle and Heritage Museum The Motor Cycle and Heritage Museum - Lobethal

Rowley Park Speedway was "the place where champions gathered" back in the 1950's to the 70's.

A small group of dedicated volunteers who grew up in the speedway era have now established one of the largest collections of motor cycles and memorabilia in Australia. The Motor Cycle and Heritage Museum in Lobethal, South Australia is now known as" the place where champions are remembered".

Manager Bill Mitchell and his team have put together a display of over 100 motor cycles at all times on display, which continually change from the collection gathered over the last century. Most of the bikes are in full working order. The collection includes motor cycles in "as found" to "restored" condition covering most aspects of uses over the years ie: road use, scrambles, speedway, road racing, trials etc.

One of the bikes on display was ridden by Sandy Mcrae who notched up 7 Bathurst victories between the years of 1953-62. Another bike is one of only 4 ever made by Adelaide Company, R P Tilbrook.

The museum's motor bikes are complimented by the extensive range of memorabilia including Petrol Pumps, Helmets, Tools, Cigarette Cards, Posters, Badges, Magazines and thousands of other collectables. The photo collections feature riders such as Jack Young who was the first Australain to win back to back World Motor Bike Championships in 1951-52.

The Motor Cycle and Heritage Museum is located at Building 21, No 1 Adelaide to Lobethal Road, Lobethal, SA, 5241 and is just a short 10 minutes drive from the Birdwood Motor Museum. It's open 7 days a week from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Adults $5.00 Children $1.00. Evening and Group bookings by appointment. Contact Bill Mitchell on (08) 8389 5734.
